DiGi today announced the availability of DiGi 4G LTE at select locations in Klang Valley for new and existing customers.
DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Telenor Group, introduced DiGi 4G LTE for selection locations in Klang Valley, ມາເລເຊຍ. This rollout is one of the steps in what Chief Marketing Officer Albern Murty calls the company’s ambition to “deliver Internet for all Malaysians.”
DiGi also reported that its 3G population coverage has reached 68 ສ່ວນຮ້ອຍ, or 6.1 million mobile Internet and mobile broadband customers, as of the first quarter of 2013, since starting three years ago. They plan to reach 75 percent by the year end. The other telecommunication companies in the mobile and broadband industry that are providing 4G LTE services are Celcom and Maxis.
DiGi 4G LTE is available to new and existing customers who subscribe to DiGi Broadband and Tablet Plans with 6GB Internet quota and above. They will be upgraded automatically with only the need to change their SIM cards to DiGinet+ SIMs at selected DiGi Stores. Customers subscribing to 6GB plans and below can choose to enjoy the 4G LTE service on demand when they are in the select zones by choosing special add-on plans.
The DiGi 4G LTE zones in Klang Valley are Plaza Low Yat, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Kota Damansara, Subang Indah Villa, Sunway Mentari, Bukit Bintang, KDU neighbourhood and Cheras Pandan Indah.
In the press release, Albern mentioned that DiGi’s strategy to roll out the service in stages is a way to ensure that they create the right experience for customers. Hence, they are targeting select high traffic areas where customers can stream HD videos without buffering, share more on their social networks in less time, and listen to uninterrupted music streaming. DiGi has a partnership with French music streaming service Deezer for customers to use the service. Across the causeway, SingTel had also opted to roll out its LTE coverage in stages as opposed to competitor M1, which launched island-wide in September last year. SingTel, M1 and StarHub had recently finish bidding for additional 4G spectrum lots in Singapore without any addition of new players.
DiGi is also undergoing a network modernisation exercise, which involves swapping over 5,500 sites to improve quality and capacity, and is expecting to complete roll-out by end of the third quarter.
